October 11, 2010 at 2:57 AM只要...就 is "sufficient condition", not the only condition, 只有... 才 is "essential condition", the only condition. For example:
只有老板才能签这个合同。
Zhǐyǒu lǎobǎn cái néng qiān zhège hétong.
法律规定，只有年满21岁，才能喝酒。
Fǎlǜ guīdìng, zhǐyǒu niánmǎn èrshíyī suì cái néng hējiǔ.

请举手 is courteous and commonly used.
For example, teacher usually ask 谁有问题，请举手。shéi yǒu wèntí, qǐng jǔshǒu.

We can say:
我遇到了困难。我遇到了麻烦。
Wǒ yùdào le kùnnan. Wǒ yùdào le máfan.
遇到+人 （not indicate something bad)
We can say:
我遇到了一个非常好的人，他帮了我很多忙。
Wǒ yùdào le yīgè fēicháng hǎo de rén, tā bāng le wǒ hěnduō máng.
We can also say:
我遇到了一个坏蛋。
Wǒ yù dào le yīgè huàidàn.
