April 27, 2008 at 4:49 PMActually, as your link has highlighted.. it's best to search for "tone" not "tones".. :) Just follow the link and you will get the lessons.. I still have a lot of trouble with tones and I'm sure I will have for years to come.. it's not natural for English speaking people in general.. Thanks for the assist with the "none of your business" clarification Jenny.. I was almost there with my attempt I can see but missing the grammar of 什么 and also the word 关 which I have not encountered before.. :) So much to learn, so little time (I allow for myself.. :> )

April 29, 2008 at 9:47 AMIs this the only lesson that contains the word 想 xiang3? I found this one today on the way to work when I was reading my new Newbie Chinese books called "Easy Peasy Chinese". The phrase in my book referred to buying a train ticket.. 我想买。。。 And I used it in real-world to buy my coffee this morning with 我想买咖啡。 My new friend Kevin the 咖啡店 owner is helping me with mandarin. :) I assume there more meanings than just "wanting something". Also I noticed in the vocab that you have 咖啡厅 instead of 咖啡店。 I assume this is another one of those interchangeable things? Or is there a distinction between a Cafe and a Coffee Shop in China? While I am on the topic of asking silly questions, I'll also ask about the usage of the number 2 and the measure words.. I noticed in my little book that if I want to say "1 person" or "3 people" or "10 people" I would just say: 一个人 or 三个人 or 是个人 but for "2 people" I have to say: 两个人 not 二个人. When I asked 我的朋友Kevin about this.. He said that it doesn't really matter. Is there an actual reason why 两 is more correct than 二? I thought perhaps there is a word in the 中文 that sounds the same as 二个 so 两个 was invented to stop the confusion? Sorry for putting English and 汉字 together like that, I am practising while I am writing. :)
