April 30, 2008 at 9:34 AMWow.. upper-intermediate.. Is there no Newbie/Elementary lessons with basics on Maths on ChinesePOD? It's taken me 6 weeks or so.. but now I can finally count up to 99 without much effort. I am trying to work out how to do fractions as well now.. but the only thing I can find for fractions is the monetary unit 毛。。 e.g.: 十毛十一 1/10.. or 0.1. I really enjoy doing maths in Chinese.. it makes me feel smart.. haha..

I was watching a YouTube music video called ni3hao3ma from from Taiwan.. and I noticed this odd character that looked like men3 but had more strokes.. So I looked it up and found it was just the traditional form of the same character. It's something to keep in mind that some places will use Traditional while others will use Simplified. From what I can tell, Mainland China uses Simplified most of the time and everywhere else uses Traditional.

April 29, 2008 at 12:34 PMI can see I might have needed to add an "also" character in there after the "but" character there to make it clearer that "I want to go too".. and may be a "past tense" character after the "Paris" word to indicate that they went there in the past.. I just don't know..

From my earlier comment: 我的市是悉尼。 wo3de shi4 shi4 xi5ni2. My city is Sydney (Australia). 我的妈妈和爸爸去巴黎但是我想去日后。 wo3de Ma1ma he4 Ba4ba qu4 Ba1li2 dan4shi4 wo3 xiang3 qu4 ri4hou4. My Mum and Dad went to Paris but I want to go someday.

April 29, 2008 at 12:22 PMYeh I see what you mean.. the "it" is superfluous.. as wikipedia says (paraphrased): "but when a reference to the "it" is nevertheless syntactically required." So the it is implied in mandarin like so many things are.. hehe.. :)

I only had to look up a few words that time! :) Did I get the grammar correct? 对不起，请问。。 The following is used to denote the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time through the dialogue: 第一篇，第二篇，第三篇。 I was wondering if there is a lesson on this concept somewhere on ChinesePOD?
