I have a couple of pictures of my Cookie Monster dog with a bone from our Saturday lunch:

I want it!!!

I Got It!!

And here's one I captured just as he was shaking himself, so he looks funny.. I might crop it and make it my avatar one of these days:

Shake!

rafael222 - It's automatic.. they are just trying to understand you and the natural thing is for non-Chinese is to not speak Chinese. I had a similar problem the other week in reverse when I was ordering coffee from a Chinese coffee vendor. She was asking me if I wanted sugar and I mistook her to be saying "shù gē", it took me a few seconds to realise what she was saying and I felt a bit embaressed by it.

*light's hands stop shaking uncontrollably* Ahhhh.. that's better.. got my cPOD fix for the day! :)

So if you call in sick at work and your boss sees you at the shopping mall s/he could say: 你不是生病在家园吗? I might need some help with the grammar there.. I'm fairly sure there needs to be a "de" in there somewhere.. but as you all know, I am confused by "de" at the moment despite many kind peoples' attempts to explain it to me.

Or for clay with the other girl: 你不是独?

That's great to hear jporta! :) This has happened to me as well but I still listen to the newbie lessons because they always have something new, or expand upon something I thought I knew already. The Newbie and Elementary level is, in my mind, the same level really.. Just that the Newbie lessons are the "easy" ones, and the Elementary lessons are the "hard" ones. The format of the lessons is the same and the content doesn't get too demanding in either level.. just that the concepts and building blocks are more complex in the Elementary level. Now that you are at this point, I recommend that you begin to listen to the Intermediate lessons as well. You may not understand a lot of it but it will get your brain working at a faster speed

Not only do they (the symmetry of characters) look good.. but for some reason I find them easier to understand..

*sigh* Thanks baillies and changye. Another "de" to deal with it seems, just to make life interesting. Fun fun fun.. How do I say I "suck" at something? Is there a Chinese equivalent? I don't just mean "very bad" but "really suck".

As chiongzibide said.. it would be most often be referred to as "hogging the mike".. An example: "Hey man! Stop hogging the mike and let someone else have a go!"
