First of all, congratulations on making it to upper intermediate! You are certainly not alone in getting lost in the discussion between John and myself since we use mostly Chinese to explain new words and grammar points at the upper level. And in many ways, this is the learning objective for upper students and a way of refining one's Chinese. I highly recommend Barto's suggestion of previewing the lesson PDF and vocab for the good reasons he stated, and I've heard users say it helps them quite significantly. Of course, we'll keep looking into and offering tools to help your learning.
Happy 2009!

January 1, 2009 at 4:57 AMWish Poddies a spectacular 2009! The lesson reminds me to get insurance this year, something I've held off for much longer than I ought to. Well, maybe that should be my new year's resolution.

Yes, it works. I think only Japanese phones are different, in a brilliant league of their own. Just buy a SIM in China and plug it into your phone. Don't know about the Wifi thing though. Help, Poddies

We had lots of discussions around this issue and finally left out the explanation fearing it would be too much information for a newbie podcast. But we certainly see the validity of the other side of the coin and now that we've heard your concerns, we will certainly address these simple yet important words in the future.
Thank you for your input! Happy牛year!

You can say 工作真无聊,还是做学生好. The second part of the sentence means it's better to be a student.
Happy new year to you too!
