These tone lessons are really helpful in getting the basics right. But it must be quite stressful if you had to  think about all the rules before say anything. So like Ken always says, remember them as words or lexical chuncks rather than disembodying the language.

I hope you enjoy today's interview with Amy Hines and Jingjing Li, the founder and president of Bean, a wonderful volunteering organization doing great work in Shanghai. It's designed for busy professionals. Even if you are here for just a few days, you can still join their community work in Shanghai.

To echo euphonies's comment, Ikea certainly doesn't have a price edge in China. There is a lot of cheaper and well-made offerings here. It's also worth noting that many Chinese (especially my parent' generation) think Ikea furniture is unfirm and won't last, because the buyer needs to assemble it, and that inherently can't be trusted. However, many young people embrace Ikea. They see it as hip, cool and creative.

@alexzye,

锤子/chui2 zi has smaller head, 榔头/lang2 tou has a bigger and fatter one. But many people confuse the two, even dictionaries. I checked on nciku.com, 榔头and 锤子are both translated as 'hammer'.

@martin16,

That's a tough one since you don't an equivalent way of saying this in English, or do you? Anyway, I am curious, what's the correct way of expressing 'he's a full twenty years old...'?

大家都很喜欢巴厘岛!It's a magical place with absolutely fascinating culture. For me personally, the charm is that while being a popular destination, it's still very authentic if you know what I mean.

@joeborn,

Yes, 上大号/shang4 da4 hao4/do a number two is a much more delicate expression than 拉大便/la1 da4 bian4.

The poop coffee was quite pricey. 5 dollars a shot, 60 bucks for a small bag of beans.

@Sydcarten,

Yes, it was Mt. Batur. It was quite spectacular.

@luobinzhenmei,

Let me dig up some of those pictures for you. From what I remembered, the poop coffee tasted sour more than stinky.
