April 21, 2009 at 3:09 PMI reckon the gender imbalance can be mostly solved if the government changes the 1-child policy to a 1-son policy.
I think China provides a stark example of why government should not be involved in reproductive rights at all...
In any case, this gender imbalance will solve itself in a generation with or without government intervention. A one-son policy would do nothing to hasten the process because it would only affect the next generation, but it would tilt the pendulum in the opposite direction for the following generation (i.e. too many girls, not enough guys).

April 21, 2009 at 1:46 AMIt's a great idea to stretch yourself by studying at a higher level than normal.
I agree. I'm only elementary, but I tend to listen to an upper intermediate lesson every week, replaying it multiple times. It's a humbling experience, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger ;)

March 26, 2009 at 8:03 PMWas it fun fishing with your grandpa? I suggest saying "我和我爷爷钓过鱼。很多次 (or 回)。" instead.

March 26, 2009 at 6:54 PMI don't think there's any real difference between 等一会儿 and 等一下。 It's more a matter of personal preference. If I'm calling for someone to stop, I'd be more likely to say 等一下 though. If it's just wait a few, then either one is fine in my opinion.

我听说'The Wire'很好。我没看过但是我知道它主题。我打算最终看它。听起来有意思。
In case you're interested, here's a pretty interesting interview with the show's creator about its major themes. He explains perfectly why the areas of the city depicted in the show are such unmitigated disasters.
