Just to clarify, this was the case when my wife was in school in China. I guess it hasn't changed.

If I recall correctly, left-handers are required to write with their right hands in school. I'm not sure if there's a practical reason behind that; as a lefty, I have no problems writing 汉字 left-handed.

We use it the same way in American English. Small world :)

Those both look like errors to me. It seems that (B) would be the correct answer for the first sentence. The second sentence appears to be just plain wrong; none of those answers would fit.

Also, I took a look at the Simplified Hanzi version of those exercises, and the sentences are correct there. The first one is 我是美国人。____? (wo3 shi4 mei3guo2ren2.___), so 你呢 (ni3 ne) would be correct. The second is 我很好。___? (wo3 hen3 hao3. _____?), so 你 (ni3) would be correct. So it looks like the pinyin version has a couple of errors.

It sounds correct to me.

romanticon,

This might be one of those cases where it helps to translate the sentence literally to yourself. In English, it would be "this is what?" (zhè shì shén me). You would never say "this what?" (zhè ge shén me). So in this sentence, 是 (shì) corresponds to "is."

Using 你呢 (nǐ ne) instead would be perfectly fine in that case. Don't burn those textbooks just yet ;)

tex, you used 想 instead of 像。我觉得应该是:“她长得很像成龙” 或者 “她看起来像成龙”。

I use Facebook but I couldn't care less about the stupid apps such as Farmville. I prefer to play real video games :)

You are a great teacher. What are you doing pandering to the new religion in China (Business)?

I don't care about Mr. Constanty's get-rich ventures.

Some of us do care about the subject.
