April 2, 2011 at 6:39 PMHi bodawei. Great to be back.
The difference to me is 喜欢 carries the meaning of 'like' and so is heavily individualistic, while 适合/suitable doesn't have to be - the meeting time is suitable because of a host of factors, not just because "I like it" or not like it. It seems to me to be more natural Chinese speech.
I would be interested to know of different opinions to this. Would people at your workplace cringe at an expression like 我比较喜欢这会议时间?

Isn't the real issue the Chinese unspoken rule that preferences are not explicitly stated but implicitly inferred?
Eg.
It would be really weird to ask: 你比较喜欢那一个会议时间? Which meeting time would you prefer?
Instead it is more natural to ask: 那个会议时间比较适合?Which meeting time is more suitable?
Opinions?

January 13, 2011 at 11:02 AM哎呀,有前科还能成经理?什么回事啊!招聘过程中没有查个清楚吗?我看这公司领导班子肯定是一窝“色狼巢穴”吧。
有趣的一课。谢谢Connie和David。很期待第三节。

January 10, 2011 at 10:07 AM课中应该给句对Mac用户有意思的“当”词例子:
The lesson should have a 当 example sentence meaningful to Mac users:
当电脑令你破产的时候,该怎么办?/When the computer gets you bankrupt, what do you do?
:-)

January 9, 2011 at 2:04 PMGreat question! One of those patterns that when you break it down word-for-word you wonder how in the world they came up with the expression.
Maybe there should be a QingWen on 什么都 or 到 (if there isn't one already).

January 9, 2011 at 2:00 PMUsed without context, the two sentences "当我有问题的时候我就问老师" and "我有问题的时候我问老师" have the same meaning. However, the 当 and 就 gives you the flexibility to emphasize what you need to emphasize in speech. Eg.
In answer to:
她是你的中文博客老师。请和她不用客气。/She is your Chinesepod teacher. Please don't be shy with her.
You can use 当 and 就 for the appropriate emphasis:
当我有问题的时候我就问老师/WHEN I have question, I WILL ask the teacher.
In Chinese speech patterns, you will find many such apparently spurious characters popping up, that gives you the ability to emphasize and therefore change the context of your sentence.
Unfortunately, you will also find the reverse to be true, where people leave out apparently essential characters and depend on context to make sentences meaningful. Such is life in Chinese. :-)
For your other question, you can use 批改 if you are talking about a document, eg "correct my Chinese essay" "批改我的中文文章".
As for the expression "my Chinese"... hmm, I really would like to hear others' comment on this. I have read "我的中文" in a few translated passages, but I don't think the expression is correct. I think 中文 in it's noun form cannot be individually or group possessed. Same for nouns for any other language eg. 英文,韩文,etc. So you have to use something like "my Chinese standard" "我的中文水平".
