November 7, 2007 at 6:40 AMThere is another 了-mystery in the Expansion: 我不吃了 [...] Translated with: "I won't eat." Now there is no immediate state change involved. I therefore would just say: "我不吃". Is the 了 only thrown in there randomly?

November 5, 2007 at 8:26 AMArt, Amber, seems to be a matter of personal preference. My wife uses 劳驾 (láojià) all the time (whenever she addresses someone on the street e.g. to ask for directions...).
