江苏连云港我们已经去过 , 很漂亮。 是我岳母的老家。 从一个德国人的角度来看不算一个"小"的地方。

Doc: "sorry could not resist" What is "dead serious" in Chinese anyway? 严重死了?

You find information on the Neutral tone (轻声, qīngshēng) here: http://chinesepod.com/lessons/the-neutral-tone/ It is denoted either by not using a tone mark (in diacritic) or with the number 5 (numbered pinyin) Also check the discussions for some hardcore ethymology background on the development of the tones ;)

sebire, my experience from University visits in Beijing is that even in highly specialized IT/IS topics the terms used are preferably Mandarin (even for concepts where in European languages only English vocab is used). And we are talking about an environment where all participants are in command of the English language. It is just more comfortable for Chinese to speak Chinese than any creapy tongue-twisting, toneless European idiom . No topic is too specialized. My collegue only knows the Chinese names of the Harry Potter characters. So there is definately no way around memorizing the Chinese words for "Warp Drive" or "Federation class spaceship".

袋鼠 (DàiShǔ) has been contrasted with 代数 (dàishù) in the banter because of the similarity in the pronounciation (3rd vs. 4th tone).

syusuke, 曲速 is Warp speed. http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9B%B2%E9%80%9F%E5%BC%95%E6%93%8E_%28%E6%98%9F%E9%99%85%E6%97%85%E8%A1%8C%29 If the 联邦宪法级星舰企业号 would travel with the speed of *sound* it would indeed take a while to cross the galaxy.
