March 28, 2008 at 2:20 PMThis time there was an old Lois de Funes slapstick from the early 70th on BTV (anybody still remembers those movies here?). At first I thought it is indeed a Chinese movie - the way the actors behaved and grimmassed was exactly like in a contemporary low-cost Chinese movie. Especially the women. I found that highly interesting from a cultural perspective.

March 28, 2008 at 2:17 PMMy father in law used to watch the Beijing-Opera-channel all day and all night - high volume. At first I found it really annoying. After a while it turned into a natural part of China. Ding-Ding-Ding-Ding.

March 28, 2008 at 6:59 AM不好意思！ I have trouble with some details in the following seemingly easy sentences: 1. I am not sure about "结果没看中": she could not look inside?? The shop? The bag? 2. Am I correct to assume that 只能自认倒霉了 is "it is only own fault [to have that kind of bad luck ]" 3. "我不跟你开价" I am *not* quoting a price? Is it meant that he is already giving a low price?

March 26, 2008 at 6:36 AMFor me there is another interesting language point hidden in this Dialogue + the Expansions: 给你便宜一块钱 (Dialogue) 你才便宜了两块钱，还是太贵了(Expansion) 便宜 can obviously be used as a verb with the meaning "make it cheaper by"

March 22, 2008 at 3:18 PMThere is a marvel in the Expansion section: 如果你想让我相信你，那就拿出你的诚意来。 You can 拿出 your 诚意? Like from a pocket or a backpack? What else can you 拿出 with this sentence pattern? Intelligence? Luck? Concentration? Handsomeness? Credibility? Love? Or if you are on the dark side: Hate? Darth Clay， 把你所有的恨拿出来！
