A lesson on the Bavarian capital.

Will there be a lesson on a German city as well some day?   :P

去年我参与了一个在慕尼黑举办的会议, 会议宴会是在Hofbräuhaus里面。 会议之后我告诉我的妻子我只喝了两三杯啤酒而已 (一杯科隆啤酒杯的容量是0.2升, 在巴伐利亚的普通单位是"1 Maß"。 去看看维基百科1 Maß是多少).

chengwo,
just checked - both in the lesson and the dialogue tab it is clearly "tài lěng le" (太冷了)。

Maybe you are misinterpreting the 3rd tone rhythm of the "lěng" syllable which kind of kneads the sound?

Judy,
depending on the movies you like watch, these words are not necessary that infrequent. Much the opposite so.

Besides, it is fascinating which vocab you encounter in real life. Recently, I watched 海绵宝宝 (SpongeBob Squarepants) with my son and they actually used "stainless anti-alien spray"* in it. And at a different Mandarin educational site they introduced "High-Def panda porn blueray" today. Compared to this, the vocab here was rather conservative  :)

* which I could only follow because there have already been lessons here on anti-mosquito spray and on alien abduction!

Matt,
this leads me to the following three preliminary conclusions:

  1. QingWen is geared at the majority of non-paying customers who cannot access the show anyway (?)
  2. There has been a major shift in focus regarding QingWen. The show used to cross levels. What I especially enjoyed about the early lessons was that even with lower Intermediate / Upper Elementry contructions you always added some complexity for the higher level folks.
  3. There is no home for more advanced grammar at CPod anymore - despite the fact that it is Intermediate upwards where all the juicy stuff kicks in. Open any standard HSK text book and you find dozens of crucial constructions and patterns that have never been touched here.

Regarding the personnel: I think this is a decent QW-team and I like it. Of course the shows with Amber and Clay flirting are superior, but this is is the sort of thing that just cannot (and should not) be planned.

@tvan: Even if Cpod never admitted it, with some sad exceptions QingWen has always been a Grammar show.

Another Newbie lesson sold under the Qing Wen brand. This used to be a Grammar show.

Don't you have a mobile site (m.chinesepod.com) that is still a big construction site? Platform dependent mobile apps look like a complete waste of resources to me.

RJ,
could that expression not also be taken in a literal sense with the skirt being a trophy? Like a lion's head? (BTW: In German we have a similar term "Schürzenjäger"- "apron hunter").

The 裙钗 talk and act independently.

Matt,
I should put on all those old TripHop-CDs again (the best being the 2008 Portishead album).

Speaking of metonymy,
my favourite one I learned from 红楼梦:

裙钗 (qúnchāi) = skirt & hairpin for "women".

However, I doubt that this word would be understood in a personal add. QC would make neat Internet lingo, though.
