January 15, 2010 at 7:16 AMI have a question regarding the cousin-vocab. I am not sure if I got that right.
Example 1: The relation between my sons and the son of my younger sister. Am I right that for my sons that would be the 堂弟 (as the boy is younger than they are), while my sister's son (my nephew) would refer to my sons as 表哥?
Example 2: Are the daughters of the older sister of my father (who are older than me) my 堂姐, while the daughters and sons of my mother's (younger) brothers and sisters would be 表弟 and 表妹 respectively?
When discussing this with my wife she started contradicting herself after a while and then ended the discussion with a: "How should I know? I don't have any cousins". :)

I really love the slow type of SciFi - and Alien is the absolute classic. Sigh, they don't do those anymore (the new adaption of Lem's Solaris being a notable exception).
But I also enjoy Aliens.

Most of my cousins have kids now, too. How would I call those? Relevant for me are especially the sons and daughters of the son and the daughter of my mother's younger sister.
P.S: Oh, and my oldest cousin approaches the age where he himself can have children. That would be the [son or daughter] of the son of the daughter of the older sister of my father. Although I don't really need it I am curious: Is there a word for that relationship too?
