Cpod,

Shouldn't  xŭduō  (许多)  be included in the vocab list for this lesson?  I'm reasonably confident I haven't encountered it in any other Newbie or Elementary lesson.

The same goes for  yŭ  (与)  and  huò  (或).

There was a generic Cpod User

Dear Amber, he chose to accuse her

Using prose, to make his calls

  He had not the balls

So we all judged this user a loser.

Its good to see Cpod is adding some of the vocab missing in the transition from Elementary to Intermediate lessons, albeit rather slowly.

If you say  这是他的照片 (Zhè shì tāde zhàopiàn)

does this mean

      1. this is a photo of his

or   2. this is a photo of him  ?

And, whichever one is correct, how do you say the other?

You claimed earlier to be a purely analytical learner like myself. You display here an ability for expression which undermines that claim. I think what we have here is here is someone who can draw on his left or right brain at will. Others have said that Pete and Tal are the most expressive users of the English language, but I think you show the most versatility in switching between analysis and expressiveness.

I assume that, because you are actually listening to the match, you must be a Pommie. I think most Aussies like myself have given up on the Ashes. Please tell me there is a good reason to tune back in.

Everyone is right when they say "The trio is" is the "correct" usage. We are taught this in school, right? But who determines what is correct - dictionary writers - educators - governments?? I prefer to let correctness be determined by common usage - and not necessarily the usage favoured by 'educated' people. So, in this case, I say both are correct. My liang fen.

@machenghan

Are you looking in the correct place. The Dialog option is not amongst the downloads on the left of the page. It is one of two tabs at the top of the page.

kimiik,

I think I remember learning that "the trio is" is technically correct. However, as your Google search suggests, both versions are in common usage.

I tend to favour "the trio are". My logic: if we were to use a personal pronoun in place of "the trio", it sounds much more natural to say "They are", than "It is".
