Not a question, just a comment. 3rd line of the dialog:

我们一起去喝东西吧。(Wŏmen yìqĭ qù hē dōngxi ba.) Let's go for a drink.

Despite all dictionaries saying 东西 means 'thing', I always get the feeling its meaning is closer to 'something'.

Typically, RJ's comment was ignored by CPod.

What I found more interesting was the user named 'aert', who made a few comments above. In his profile he says he was born in 1919, and that he was a retired linguist.

On Feb 24 2008, in another thread, he wrote:

"Cpod staff and users Due to an emergency I am leaving by train for Amsterdam today and by plane for Vancouver tomorrow, I don't know for how long but have a return ticket for April 2/3. I won't have access to the internet there. But in the hurry of the preparations I have not forgotten to extend my CPod subscription. I'll have a lot to catch up with. Best to all of you."

That was his last comment here. Did anyone know him well enough to know what happened?

CPod, I think your translation of the 10th Expansion sentence needs fixing - basketball - not tennis.

Another 了 I don't get - Expansion sentence:

她坐了我的座位。(Tā zuò le wŏde zuòwèi.) She is sitting in my seat.

The 了 is after the verb, so it should be "completed action 了", right? But she is currently sitting in the seat.

OK, here's a question which has been asked by 3 different people above (including changye), but still has not been answered by CPod.

In the first line of the dialog:

五排怎么走？ (Qĭngwèn èr hào tái wŭ pái zĕnme zŏu?) Excuse me, how do I get to section 2, row 5?

why does hào (号) occur before tái (台), but not before pái (排)?

五排 seems like its missing something, like a measure word, or perhaps 第.

(Also CPod, you might want to fix up a minor typo in that line - change 'how to I' to 'how do I'.)

CPod, In the 10th Expansion sentence, you may want to change the translation to include the 下个月.

But if you say "zài lái yī bēi" (bring another glass), hasn't the situation also already happened? I would think whichever form of 'again' you used, it can only happen again because it has already happened. Doesn't the use of yòu or zài depend on the timing of the recurrence?
