1. Re the expansion sentence:

向前冲。(Xiàng qián chōng.) Forge ahead.

What is the difference (in meaning and/or frequency of use) between the use of 向 (xiàng) and 往 (wǎng) in this context?

2. Re the expansion sentence:

快冲,别人要赶上来了。 (Kuài chōng, biérén yào găn shànglai le.) Quick, hurry. Other people are going to catch up to you.

My dictionaries give 2 main meanings for 上来 (shànglai):

(a) to come up / to approach

(b) a verb complement indicating success

I see value in applying either of these meanings in the sample sentence. Which meaning is intended? Is 赶上来 (găn shànglai) a set phrase?

So, is it like 'go away and die'. If not, and if its not a set phrase, I can't see why someone would think of adding the 去 here.

In the last Expansion sentence:

我猜不出来。 (Wŏ cāi bù chūlái.)  I can't guess.

I understand that this is the potential complement. But why 出来 (chūlái)?  Is this just a fixed phrase we need to remember, or does 出来 carry some meaning here?

Thanks for that. I hadn't realised it could be used in this way.

In the Expansion sentence:

他女朋友长什么样? (Tā nǚpéngyou zhăng shénmeyàng?)  What does his girlfriend look like?

shouldn't that be 长得 (zhǎngde)?

In the Expansion sentence:

你笑起来真可爱。 (Nĭ xiào qĭlái zhēn kĕài.)  You have a really cute smile.

what does the 起来 (qĭlái) add to the meaning? I'm guessing it is just a filler that is used because the verb 笑 (xiào) doesn't take an object? Would that be right?
