Just adding to the comment below, this is not really Newbie material. It will show up more in the Elementary lessons.

But, to give you a couple more examples:

1. 他唱得很好 (Tā chàngde hěn hǎo) He sings very well.

2. 他跑得很快 (Tā pǎode hěn kuài) He runs very fast.

So its used when describing HOW the verb is performed - an adverb as aaepli says.

So, the baby and Dad both have an erect nose. Hm.

Yellowbridge actually gives 2 translations for 3-ply.

1. 三股 (sāngǔ) - but Nciku's examples seem to apply to ropes (3 strand), and other misc. examples.

2. 三层夹板 (sān céng jiā bǎn) - but Nciku defines this as 'triple laminate'.

Perhaps the 三层 (sān céng) is on the right rack though.

Thanks Connie. I should go back and listen to all those Qingwens again.

Regarding the Expansion sentence:

哪里可以交水费? (Nălĭ kĕyĭ jiāo shuĭfèi.)  Where can you pay the water bill?

What is the difference between 交 (jiāo) and 付 (fù) ? Are they interchangeable here? Are there other words for 'pay'?

Thanks again Connie.

So how would you say it was illegible?
