I've always been taught that 吗 is neutral tone, and now find that, in combination with 干, it is 2nd tone (干吗 gànmá what's up?). Is this a one-off, or are there other exceptions lurking out there?

Is there any difference in usage between 真的 and 真? In today's lesson it's zhen1: 真漂亮; at other times zhen1 de: 我真的很热. Is there a rule, or is it purely a matter of personal preference?

Hi,

2 errors in the pdf file that I've noticed:

  1. 鸡蛋 has reverted to "hen" instead of "egg".
  2. The "text version" link takes you back to the lesson, not to the html version of the text.

In the pdf, the pinyin for下星期 is shown as xia1 xing1 qi1. Shouldn't it read xia4?
