August 14, 2012 at 9:39 AMYour friend is right, given the large population and diversity of Chinese in this world. In my case I was referring to the standard spoken conversational Mandarin used by the teachers in the Chinese school. But they do switch from standard Mandarin to colloquialism which I sometimes do not understand. They are aware of this too because they use standard and mainstream Chinese in formal meetings.
The writing style is obviously different. The Taiwanese tend to be more emotional.

August 13, 2012 at 8:49 PMIn the Philippines, we use 读 extensively. This could be a Taiwan influence, but that was a long time ago and Chinese has evolved so much since.

August 14, 2012 at 9:12 PM我的学校没有强调任何宗教,而且菲律宾的华侨大部份是做生意的。所以我对道教不太认识。我想台湾应该有道教的信徒。
