I think part of pinkjeans' comment was about the characters. I always thought that phrase was " 天啊" rather than "天哪 ", too.

That's really interesting about "le".  Years ago I spent 6 months in Beijing, studying language and culture. I was told by my Chinese roommate and my Chinese teachers that "le" was just sort of tacked on when they felt like it, but when *writing* it was different. Now, I think that the question was just too complicated to explain to me at the time. We never dug into how to use it properly, and I didn't know it was even something to think about until I started using ChinesePod.

Is there a reason the 4th tone mark is missing from "lao3shi" in the title?

I agree with most of the constructive criticism.

One thing I did find interesting however was the use of real objects to create "ren", specifically, using people to make the "ren". The image of the people slamming chests was memorable, and I think if I was a total beginner that image would stick with me. I think this type of imagery is worth further study/videos.

Thanks for the explanation -- makes perfect sense.

Another comment--would it be possible or practical to list the parts of speech next to the vocab? A lot of words can be used as either verbs or nouns. (For example, in this lesson, they mention that "jian4yi4" can be used as a verb as well as a noun, but it is just listed as "advice" in the PDF.)  But can I "shi4chang3 wo3de ben3ling3 (market my skills)" ?

(Actually I am not convinced of the idea, myself. Scribbling my own notes while I listen to the podcast is, in itself, a learning tool, and if I had everything written out for me, I would lose that. On the other hand, it's not like everything about a word or phrase can be recorded on the PDF.)

In my hometown there are certain stores that give a 10 cent discount per bag you bring in yourself. Not bad, though I like a1pi2's idea of having a separate line for people who bring their own bags (assuming it is a faster line).

Re: water bottles, when I lived in Beijing (2000-2001) it was hard to avoid bottled water. We couldn't drink the tap, and the only other water was from the hot water machines. So if you wanted cold water, you had to refrigerate it for several hours. This wasn't always practical.
