January 14, 2008 at 4:55 AMIn the hotel where I stayed in Xi An, there were no smoking signs in the lobby. I don't recall smoking to be a problem in the place where we had breakfast either.

January 12, 2008 at 4:14 AMHelpful lesson. I would like to suggest that in future food related lessons that you have more names of dishes. I mentioned this in another lesson, being ilmited to "Gong bao ji ding" is somewhat constraining. Perhaps putting more names of dishes in the supplemental vocab. thx

January 12, 2008 at 4:08 AMAuntie Sue. On the way to Wu Dang Shan from Xian our bus stopped at a farm house to cool the brakes. The outhouse wasn't too much different than the Tunisian toilet other than it was in a large shed like structure. I opted for Number 1 and waited until we made it to the hotel. :-) And that was a loonnngggg wait. The toilets certainly made the trip memorable.

How would I tell the barber that I want my hair cut over my ears such that no hair is covering any part of my ears? Also, "part my hair"? Do Taiwanese pronounce 头发 slightly differently? I thought my wife used the third tone for 发 thx Dave
