我不是商人,也没有从事过任何有关商业的行业,所以这个二八定律我还是第一次听说,谢谢chinesepod!不过这节课里的女生真的是现学现用啊,要是被老板知道了,估计就要糟糕了!

xiaohu,

hey guys, about the question “几位”, I think I should give it a try.

I am not a chinese expert or a linguist, just as a native speaker, my understanding about this question have two possibilities.

First they might be ask you about how many seats they should prepare for you. And second, when you go to a chinese restaurant, you are a guest no matter what kind of job you do or what status you are, you are the guest! So ,to show the respect to guests, we use the measure word“位”.

Let me give you some chinese sentences.

今天我们家有两位客人!

老板,这三位客人想要定一个包间!

Hope these can make sense. If not, I hope our Connie, the expert in Chinesepod team can help!^_^

auntie68,

你说的很对!

奥运开幕式观众如云

奥运开幕式的观众非常多,简直是人山人海

奥运开幕式云集成千上万的观众。

非常好的句子!You can also say

成千上万的观众到现场观看了奥运会开幕式!

奥运会开幕式上座无虚席!^_^

“观众如云”“人山人海”“成千上万”都是用来形容人多的数也数不清的情况!当然还有“人声鼎沸”“门庭若市”“车水马龙”“万人空巷”等等成语!

关于“堆”,字典上说做量词的时候用于表示成堆的东西或成群的人:一~粮食、一~人。

I think maybe because my understaning of english is not that kind of good, so my explanation in english made you feel puzzled, I am sorry about that. I hope my chinese explanation is clear for you.

uncle changye and sirup,

you are right, we use 一对to measure people, like一对夫妇 一对恋人 一对双胞胎 一对姐妹 一对兄弟

we never use"双" to measure people! But we do use"双" to measure shoes, like一双鞋子.

About 群,堆and批are all means that there are many people, it is crowded!

And about the measure word for 牛,they are 头,只and群.like一头牛/一只牛=an ox  一群牛=a herd of cattles.

Hope those can make sense!^_^

auntie68,

yeah, we address our great-grand-mother曾祖母and great-grand-father曾祖父.

Since our dear auntie68 had mentioned some titles in a family, I think I should add some more! But it may confuse you!

The English word "uncle", which means 叔叔and 舅舅in chinese. But 叔叔and舅舅just are two general sayings. 叔叔refers to your father's brothers and 舅舅refers to your mother's brothers! If you want some details, there are大叔(大伯),二叔,三叔,四叔......and大舅,二舅,三舅,四舅......Same as the auntie. auntie can means姑姑and阿姨.姑姑refers to your father's sisters and 阿姨refers to your mother's sisters!
