don't worry about asking such questions. Anyhow, this question is a very good one I think and I don't think the answer is obvious, because the answer lies in something omitted. I think this "de" is part of a "shi....de" pattern. So if the shi hadn't been omitted [just for convenience/laziness....it's still understood to be there] it would be:

I was merely curious what those words meant, but I'll drop it and you are free to fly...fly, be free. Just want to say that I personally enjoy a good debate [hope others enjoy it too], there is never any animosity intended [ and I sincerely hope none is ever perceived....if so, I apologise], I see a friendly debate as separate from an argument and enjoy reading others views, more interesting if they are different to my own, more likely I will learn something, and I particularly enjoy reading what you have to say, so I'm sorry to see you feel trapped by them and hope you have not been discouraged and hope there are no hard feelings. ..this was an interesting statement. I'd love to have a clearer idea of what you mean. Do you mind expanding a little, maybe with some examples? And if romance is erroneous, how do you think things should be?
