Ok,it probably didn't make sense.I was trying to say:

I love saying mafan. It's mafan when there is nothing to say mafan about.

How should I have said that?

turkeysub,

I wouldn't claim to understand your experience or to fully understand Chinese culture [but agree with tvan that there is racism in all cultures unfortunately ].However,I would have thought there was a difference between being genetically dark skinned and to being genetically fair skinned but darkened by the sun.Excessive sun exposure in fair skinned people leads to premature ageing and an increased risk of skin cancer. In Australia this is a big problem because here it has been the opposite. It has been considered more beautiful to get a good tan.We even now still have people paying to go to tanning salons despite widespread educational programmes about the risk of skin cancer.

Jenny,

I really like the idea of "entirety" as you put it.Several ways of preparing the same food make it very interesting.Don't agree that it's agressive. On the contrary I find it very frugal. This reminds me of a scene from "dances with wolves" where there is a huge field of slaughtered buffalo by the white men and the Indians are aghast. Now that was aggressive/wasteful.
