paulinurus,

Thanks for that.I know exactly what you mean.Sometimes knowing the words is not enough.Another good reason that it's great we can now hide the English translation until we've had a crack at working out what we think the whole sentence is saying.

changye,

Sorry I was of no help but I know diddlysquat Japanese if you'd tried to explain it that way.

paulinurus,

I'm happy to help if I can.Have you read my above posts to reigau? Is it something different to that?

reigau,

No worries mate. It's always greyed out until you highlight the word you want to use as the hotlink ,like here

reigau,

I'm not certain what you mean by hot links as I don't know all the lingo, but I think you mean when you highlight a word that can then be clicked on like here ,which takes you to that site.If that is right, then what you do is copy the url of either the address bar if you just want to link to a page,or if it's just a pic ,once again you could get the url of the pic from properties, then click on the little chain icon 4 from the right at the top of the edit box and paste the url in there.Bingo, like here.

reigau,

I have posted that pic for you.A couple of tips on posting pics. The link you gave was obviously taken from the address bar of the page the below pic was taken from and so doesn't work when you try to post the pic here. You need to right click on the picture itself and get the image location from properties.Once you've copied that you then go to the edit box here and click on the little picture icon 2nd from the right at the top.You then paste the image location in the url and also have to add the pic dimensions. If you just click on the first dimensions box it will usually just automatically fill it in if you give it time [otherwise you can get dimensions from the properties tab of the pic]

matt,

Fair enough.I'm sorry this has come up again but I was just initially responding to what seemed an accusation of being selfish. It was merely an oversight on my part and I am happy to go along with the policy, and am also happy to do whatever I can to help other poddies. Also,I think giving the English translation as you point out is very easy to do.It is just adding the pinyin that requires a lot of checking.

Licha,

Sorry if I've upset you.I was merely expressing my humble opinion.Besides, you are obviously right as it is CPod policy anyway.Peace, and I wish you all the best.

Paulinurus,

Yeah, baba or any other abbreviation is fine mate.

licha,

Your opinion is as valid as mine and you make a good point that I hadn't considered in that not everyone has the vocab tabs etc.As I said,I am happy to comply with the policy, and my comments on double checking weren't solely referring to myself, but if you read what I said,I was mainly referring to whether it would put others off posting. You also make the point about your common sense telling you that you should learn from native mandarin teachers. If that is your belief, then why are you interested in what the likes of me posts? We thus seem to agree on this latter point. You should be learning from the teachers and not be misguided by paying attention to anything I post,a mere Ellie.Cheers and 晚安 [wǎn ān ..night peace...good night]

mudphud,

There are some programs that will do that. Some you have to pay for and some are free.A well known free one is Chinese Pera-kun.

changye,

I think your guess is as good as mine[but agree that many are likely to miss it unless they read a thread like this or are reminded].I don't know how long the bit about English translations has been there but I first noticed it within the last week when ,I think it was Matt, pointed it out.Possibly one is more likely to notice such a thing when one first signs up and first explores a site[and I'm guessing most new Poddies are newbies, whereas the policy ostensibly seems aimed at more advanced users for the benefit of the newbies/ellies].However,I don't see an easy way around this for CPod.There are lots of things that need to be brought to peoples attention and you don't want to make the interface too busy, especially with things like policies I would have thought.I suppose if the majority of people followed the policy then in a monkey see monkey do kind of way it would possibly catch on anyway. But I'm not sure that's happening at the moment and thus it's so easy to forget [so I'm accidentally guilty too].But I'll make a more concerted effort to comply as I appreciate CPod's efforts.I don't mind making the extra effort myself, but I just don't want others put off.I think poddies should just be encouraged to ask questions about anything they don't understand.I think the whole community is here to help on that front, but none has been greater than yourself my friend.

不好意思说出口...i thought it meant: I'm embarrassed to say this out loud

I too loved monkey magic and remember with fondness. Some of it's there on youtube mate.

Jenny,

Maybe you should make the next episode of Wang's office a court scene.Barristers know never to ask a question in court they don't know the answer to.哈哈大笑 :)
