March 29, 2009 at 1:32 AMThe start of this N&F was reminding me of sesame street.Todays episode was brought to you by the number x and the letter f,hehe. Will a Chinese version of the Count be making an appearance by any chance?
Been looking forward to giving the activity stream a go.Just been busy catching up on the recent lessons first. The more I look at it,the more it does look like a great idea.
Great to finally get to hear the Light interview.Well done mate.Have a ball in China. It would be great to hear an interview at the end too.Poddie interviews always add an extra element of interest to N&F.
Can't wait for the new video series.Sounds like it will be more than a weeks waiting hey?

Oh yeah, forks can be dangerous.I always request chopsticks when I'm eating Chinese or Japanese food.I'll have to give this left handed thing a go though.
suburbanite,
thanks for the interesting post.I didn't know the writing on the chopsticks became important but I love tips like this.

March 28, 2009 at 1:44 PMThis line:
晴翠接荒城
..and it's discussion reminded me of how there have been some interesting looks at what would happen to the earth if humans were to disappear. The History channel made an interesting documentary a year ago about this, which shows how nature would reclaim our man made structures, etc. They have used evidence from Prypiat,Ukraine which was abandoned in 1986 after the Chernobyl disaster.
Beautifully read Jenny and Pete.Great idea comparing east and west on the same theme.
I particularly enjoyed the final line of Walt Whitmans :
"And to die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier."
Bill,
Great post about Li-sao and the French translators interpretation.Yeah,it's pretty nifty how the poem's conciseness of the last couple of lines is relying on an in depth knowledge of the reader to get the deeper meaning. Thanks for that mate :)

March 28, 2009 at 12:00 AMWith regards to having to say 河边 I presume the need for the 边 doesn't apply if you're going to be fishing from a tinny in the middle of the river.对不对?
"Oh we're not done yet Jenny"
...太可笑,哈哈。。。加油 John,hehe.
I also loved the background sounds, especially the running water.Really did sound like a 河边。
I agree it would be great to have more dialogues involving little kiddies.Do Chinese ever engage in "baby talk" with little 'uns? My guess is no,but if it is the case, are there any examples and does it affect the characters?
Classic dialogue, esp the impatience of the 小宝 at the end, hehe.

I'm not sure if this is the precise method you're referring to ,but it looks like even a toddler can pull it off [I hope you won't take offence that she's eating noodles...none intended mate I assure you..just hope the bond btw fellow noodles isn't too strong]:
