mikeinewshot,

Very impressive mate and thanks for sharing.I'd be interested to hear your comparison between the 3 languages in terms of difficulty in learning...though I realise from what you are saying that your approach has involved different scenarios/time frames/and periods of life/motivations perhaps/other factors.Still ,any insight on that front would be very interesting.

Kimiik,

From memory I think it was:

"Deadpan humour doesn't go over well"..though in the current swine flu climate and ships on our shores here being quarantined,I do like your interpretation. :)

Bob,

Good work/research mate with your list and thus a point well made. This is something akin to what I was getting at in this thread.I think it's great to base lessons around interesting topics..a great strength of CPod is that the lessons are both interesting and entertaining. With so many lessons under the belt,I think it would be a good idea to check vocab that is available at each level and make sure all the vocab that one could expect of say an Ellie, has been covered. So lessons should continue to be a combination of reinforcing vocab one has already been exposed to in other lessons and combining this with new vocab appropriate to that level/preparatory for the next level.Yes,incorporating Bob's list in future lessons may well be a good start.I'd also like to reiterate the point that I think more testing would be helpful so people can more accurately guage where they're at and get self feedback on the areas they need to improve in.I believe this may reduce frustration and give oneself a more realistic view of where one's at.I wouldn't want to stop the access to the more advanced lessons, but if my testing shows me I'm at Ellie level and I go and try an Advanced lesson to give my brain a workout, well I just know I'm only going to be able to pick up so much of it...thus my realistic expectation will not lead to frustration/disappointment.Just my opinion of course.

vinilla_guerrilla,

也许你可以找一个中文魔术镜子一样Lord Farquaad,就它可以介绍bachelorette二号

[Perhaps you can try and find a Chinese magic mirror just like Lord Farquaad, then it might introduce you to bachelorette number 2]

Jenny,

多谢;我试是,不过真的我感学中文非常玩儿。我女儿十三岁。

[many thanks,I try to be,but really I feel that learning Chinese is extremely fun.My daughter is 13 years old ]

From the expansion we have 汉堡 for hamburger, but I prefer the longer version 汉堡包 just because it sounds ridiculously funny [even though as one can see from the Hanzi, the second bao is not a reduplication...the first two characters a transliteration and the third adding meaning [presumably like 包子..bun...relating to the way it's presented ].It's not as funny though as Clouseau's attempt at learning it in English:

That is google video and not youtube,so for those in China interested hopefully you can get it.Thanks to CPod for showing the patience of this teacher and more with we Poddies. We don't quit,we never quit;again, again!!

[I want to help my daughter study Chinese;moreover I'm very interested in Chinese history and culture, and finally I really like Chinese people]

RJ,

Mind you,I get to practice xiaophils point number 4 by listening first before going to the helpful vocab and dialogue tabs. But,it certainly would be helpful after that to have a transcript of the lesson ,or some other help as you guys are asking for to get the most out of it.That's one reason I thought this QW was great.Yes,I hope we do get what you guys are requesting. The more resources on offer the better;then we can take 'em or leave 'em as we like and more people will be catered to/happy.Anyhow,I'm looking forward to the next ones in this series.

Pete,

I agree.I think this has been a great discussion and I thought xiaophil made some excellent points, particularly point 4.I liked thinkbudda's comment too:

"there's a certain pleasure to be had in bafflement..."

..indeed;one of the big attractions and something that adds to the intrigue. It makes those "ah hah" moments all the more rewarding too.

I agree with Sebire's approach.I always listen to the podcast dialogue first without looking at any of the tabs, then when I've understood as much as I can on my own I go to the vocab tab [listening before looking],listen again to the podcast dialogue and see what I can now pickup, and then when I go to the dialogue tab I for some time now have also listened before looking [this is because some time ago I realised how many homophones there are and that the characters are much more specific and thus easier],then I listen to the podcast dialogue again and the rest of the podcast and I'm done.Of course context makes a big difference here. Also collocations. Finally I go to the discussion, and then I do expansion and exercises and file away.I should review and plan at some stage to just download the dialogues only for easier podcasts, and audio review for higher podcasts but to date I find it hard to just keep up with the daily lessons so haven't found the time. But it's great to have there for when I do hopefully find the time. It's great that CPod are listening and it will be interesting to see what developments come of this.

Pete,

Thanks for that.

"节育 focuses on when to have a baby, and how many to have"

..hmm,I'd be interested to hear what they had to say in that talk.Could be pretty brief, esp the second half.

" 医生,how many can I have ?"

“一个,下问题”

KWX

..I know as you said it is not referring to the one child policy and also that things have been changing on that front anyhow.

Thanks again Pete for following up my questions. :)
