Yeah, but I was hoping you'd figured out that proxy thing Pete gave a link to [but maybe it's not that easy;sorry].If you had been able to see the video you would realise that point 2 was not pertinent;the ad for typhoo tea contained dozens of Indian fellas but not a single xx chromosome specimen in site.So it made me wonder about your definition of comely girls.KWX. :)

Thanks for the tip mate.I won't update firefox in that case.I did a trial of mdbg popup to compare ,and while it was better in some areas [and I love mdbg dictionary],it took a while to load everytime I'd start up my computer.I'm not sure if this happens when you actually buy it or not.

Thanks for such a great series of Poems with Pete.It has added a whole new dimension to this site.Though it'll be sad to see it wind up for the first season,it's a break well earnt I reckon as a lot of work obviously goes into preparation and it must be hard to keep pumping out such high quality lessons each week. The second season will be much anticipated and I'm sure you'll come back with renewed enthusiasm.Jiayou.
Shenyajin,
再欢迎来CPod [again, welcome to CPod].I remember being told exactly the same thing as a very young kid.If you keep crossing your eyes they'll stay that way.To me it put our plumber [who had a severe squint ] in a new light. That old wives tale was up there with ..if you don't eat the crusts of your bread you won't have curly hair.It always seemed to be delivered as some kinda threat but being male I couldn't have given a rats either way,but I did think my cousin must have had quite a regular intake of crusts. How about we have a new avatar of you with your eyes crossed? [Better throw on a dotted T]. Does it help reading Hanzi ?
What was the name of that movie mentioned?
Hope you all enjoyed the Dragon Boat festival.Any tales/photos to share?

I think they are pretty much different ways of saying the same thing. My understanding is that zhong means middle and refers to China and originates from ancient time when the Chinese considered themselves the centre of the world.Wen refers to language [or culture].Han refers to the Han Chinese race and yu to language ,so Hanyu refers to the language of the Han Chinese race which is of course Zhongwen. So I don't think there really is a difference essentially but I'd be very happy if someone pointed out one I'm not aware of.

I had the same question in mind and have been meaning to get back to this.I have found the following definitions:
"dada
1920, from Fr. dada "hobbyhorse," child's nonsense word, selected 1916 by Romanian poet Tristan Tzara, leader of the movement, for its resemblance to meaningless babble."
)
| the style and techniques of a group of artists, writers, etc., of the early 20th century who exploited accidental and incongruous effects in their work and who programmatically challenged established canons of art, thought, morality, etc. |
1915–20; < F: hobby horse, childish redupl. of da
giddyap"n.
A European artistic and literary movement (1916-1923) that flouted conventional aesthetic and cultural values by producing works marked by nonsense, travesty, and incongruity.
...so yeah, the intro is saying that the English translation:
tell me,who is rice's mother,
who?
flower
why?
peanuts.
...which is nonsense of course,is actually funnier than the Chinese pun.

lol. They're not my Indian fellas mate.I'm wondering what else is in your tea apart from caffeine and tannins.Maybe it's not the tea itself.Maybe the pickers weren't too careful up in them hills and threw in a few magic mushies, hehe.Anyway mate, don't let me spoil your cuppa.Go back down the hole and say g'day to the mad hatter for me will ya ? :)
