I reckon:
1.you can drop the de if you're referring to someone the ta is very close to eg family or close friend
2.I think you nailed it there.
3.Also agree from what I've heard. It has a much more innocent meaning in China..just meaning having some innocent fun,and not the connotation it can take on in the west.

August 10, 2009 at 5:03 AMOk,so ren4shi means you have to actually know the person. How would one respond if you didn't renshi the person but knew who they were?

August 7, 2009 at 1:19 AMI was going to add, shouldn't it be 十口人[shi2kou3ren2..ten people]?I thought she had forgotten to count 我我 [wo3wo3..(me me) ] in.I thought it was a joke at first, that a newbie was counting each person twice due to the reduplification of the characters [or eg ba4ba..(father) being twice the man he ought to be...or each has a split personality].
Alternatively, this may be a representative family member.

There are quite a few ways to pose a question in Chinese.I believe you are completely correct about the inflection here, but also the general exasperated tone of here voice was important.Once again context is also important I think.I struck this interesting concept you are raising some time back.I think the more you listen to [especially emotionally charged] dialogues, the more you get a feel for it.
