Strip chess sounds oxymoronic somehow.....

...well it brings a whole new meaning to check mate anyhow..

Talking of 跳舞 followed by the new vocab item 羽绒服..led me to the sora-mimi "you wrong foot".Great explanations in this lesson btw, including how 看起来 affected 像。I think her dancing with wrong feet[or 2 left feet] due to wearing 靴子 means maybe he could have left out the 看起来 though.

I was a little surprised by the girls surprise that there was both drinking and dancing at the 酒吧。

changye,

pronounced as "guo1" (呙), which originally means "distorted mouth" in ancient times, so "呙" only represents the sound of the character 锅, but not represents its meaning.

..interesting.It would have been easy to see how it could have represented the meaning though:

Hey Pete,

So good to see your avatar and get your input. What a champ you are dropping by to stick up for one of your old workmates.Good luck with the organic farming.

I just want to say that I am not trying to hide my accent. It´s the other way around, I am proud of where I come from and my heritage

..yep,that's certainly the impression I get,and rightly so.Stay proud and stay strong Liliana. :)

Before you post a comment, ask yourself if you’d say what you’re tempted to write to that individual in person.

..excellent point.I agree.

romanticon,

Just to give you a quick answer,my feeling is that while both mean "can",hui is better in this situation because it gives more of an "ability" vibe [in this situation asking them if they are able..have the skill to use chopsticks],whereas keyi gives more of a "may" vibe..ok to do something. However this is just my feeling and I'm not 100% sure of the accuracy.

calicartel,

Excellent observation and question.I'd love to see an authoritative answer.I'm guessing the answer lies in the fact that the transliteration for Kentucky is 肯塔基 and that's where they got that 基 from.

bodawei,

what is your reference for them being a symbol of 'fidelity

from wiki article here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_Duck

I think the male had done his bit and had fled the coop

...from the same article "The Mandarin Duck symbol is also used in Chinese weddings, because in traditional Chinese lore they symbolize wedded bliss and fidelity. The reason for this metaphor is because unlike other species of ducks, most Mandarin drakes reunite with the hens they mated with along with their offsprings after the eggs have hatched and even share scout duties in watching the ducklings closely."

I'll tell you what is weird..we were posting at the same time obviously but your last comment says it was 1 minute ago and mine says it was 4 minutes ago and that I have 19 minutes left to edit my comment.

monge_chapolin,

"想想就流口水"

=巴甫洛夫的狗。我希望火锅没有狗否则可能认为是同类相食,而且我觉得狗是热性和鼻流血跟口水太乱了.我开玩笑。

大家,

总是一边

。。这是真的?为什么?也许是低沸点?

而且,平时用哪种的热?

王老吉

Now if they'd been really good at promoting 王老吉:

。。they'd have managed to get the statue of liberty holding the can aloft and shouting 干杯 [but I presume that doesn't sound quite right with tea?]
