Woo Hoo.现在我非常激动。I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one.The only thing that will stop my fully transcribing this lesson[of course with mistakes and omissions that hopefully will get ironed out in the end with the help of others] in a timely fashion will be having enough free time to do it,but I'm sure we can get there eventually. :) 我马上开始吧。

wenjong,

thanks for that link to the quiz mate.A nice varied format though the distractors are a bit obvious.I gotta go somewhere though and I'm up to 1140 and it's still going...got any idea how many questions it asks or if you can stop and finish later somehow?

谢谢lujiaojie.现在我觉得我明白,不过也许我应该证实:

While the rollover for that expansion sentence had 意见 meaning "idea, opinion" in this case it was being used instead in the sense of objection or complaint. So instead of a literal translation of:

boss towards his idea very big

..should it be more like?:

boss towards his [the 的 referring back to his inefficiency/performance in the preceding line...am I right??] complaint very big.

Have I got that right now?

hehe, yeah,I love not only the evasive vague nature of 有事 but also the way the 4th tone of 事 closes off the topic.ps.Does this 有事 work with spouses too?

I can't believe I haven't come across 改天见 before. Is it common? It certainly seems like it should be and that it belongs in ellie if not newbie.

I was very glad to see 再见 used in this way in this lesson.I used it this way in a convo with xiaophil the other day but it felt slightly strange as I hadn't actually seen it used that way before so it's nice to see it's ok.

From the expansion, can someone please explain how this:

老板意见很大

comes to mean this:

The boss isn't very fond of him

Jiayou. That's the spirit.:) Just see what you can get out of it without feeling the need to understand it all or much at all.Be happily confused. :)

ps.lol ..excitedly waving your hands from side to side.I like your enthusiasm and it sounds just as depicted in your avatar.I am aware of Wallace and Grommit and have seen a snippet or two but that's about it.

hehe, doodlemonster,is "Eeeeeeek!" a positive sound? The second exclamation mark and the But..disappointed bit make it sound like you meant that in an excited positive way.I tend to associate that sound more with a girl spying a cockroach or something, hehe. Anyway,I completely understand your disappointment re Media level, though I wouldn't say I was personally disappointed..on the contrary I'm happy regardless of level even though it's above me too.I don't think you need be shy about coming on to the boards of a Media lesson and ask any questions you want there.I'm sure there can still be plenty of vocab that could be picked out for you.Though not as good or clear as CPod did you know you can also hear how words sound in online dictionaries such as mdbg? Why don't you just think of a list of Avatar related vocab you'd like to hear and lets see if we can either glean them from the lesson [and if possible even put them into the sentences used in the lesson] or look up any that don't turn up in the lesson.I reckon you might be surprised at what you can get out of it.It's not necessary to follow everything to still get something worthwhile out of it.Cheers :)

关于这个课程我有一些问题:

1.这个词:毛坯房。听说在中国经常开始。。with an empty shell.Perhaps I'm splitting 毛's here but 毛坯房 is defined as unrenovated home and then translated as completely bare [which as I say I realise is common practice and as you guys reiterated in the lesson].But speaking in general terms how does one distinguish between an empty shell, and an old house/apartment full of stuff that's falling down and just not been renovated?

2.装修完了显得

..translated as:

(After it's been renovated it'll look smaller.)

..I'm thinking here about the difference between smaller [may still be quite large but just a little smaller than it previously looked] and truly looking small. How to distinguish?

3.炒菜油烟跑到客厅

I'm wondering if it would have been just as valid to start this off with 那炒菜的时候..or if there is a significant difference? I also presume this sentence is rhetorical as suggested by the 不 and emphasised by the 嘛。

4.A few questions in the negative in this one such as:

这个意见。..which I take it is kinda saying ..you haven't got any ideas on this hey?

5.I was a little confused about the whole 打通ing in this sentence:

你说我们阳台打通好不好

which has been translated as:

what do you think about tearing down these walls and extending the room into the balcony?)

..but John seemed to talk about enclosing the balcony.

6.What's the story with 咱们 vs 我们?

7.你拿反了。。if he was holding it upside down, how come he read the instructions when he first looked at it?

Were they neighbours starting their 装修 in the background at the end or did someone jump start 老婆's idea of 来敲?

btw I love the realistic echo in this lesson and that word we've had before..无所谓..such a distinctive sounding term.
