May 18, 2010 at 3:13 PMthanks chris and tvan...interesting to know. Yeah, I guess it'd have to be a pretty decent number to make an impressionable dent in 14 million. On the other hand ,if public transport say was already bursting at the seams....
..do they seem to have put on extra services?

May 18, 2010 at 4:46 AMI was thinking the same at the time. I was also thinking how of course I know what an Ox and what a Ford is but it's funny how you don't always think of the breakdown in English [often I do ,but not always] at least not in the higher levels of consciousness. I loved these translations...particularly seeing that Oxford ...a place name was translated in terms of the breakdown of it's meaning and not a transliteration, and also that the translation of Cambridge was a mix of both meaning and transliteration. Loved that.

May 18, 2010 at 2:42 AMhehe, yeah I was thinking of Las Vegas, all the cities with Chinatowns, and big cities like LA that have areas such as "little Italy". Obviously there is no substitute for the real deal, but when you can't afford it I love having these options, and love living in a multicultural society.
I was also thinking about the all the previous world expos and don't see why the Chinese govt should be singled out for such a comment. It could equally apply to those former. In fact it was Prince Albert's idea originally that kicked off the 1851 expo in London and it's title gives the main idea behind it:
"Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations"

May 18, 2010 at 12:04 AMspecial pavilion called the 地铁,...propelled at high speed back to normal place
..lol :)
large competitive queuing systems
...no surprise the queues are long. Your comment makes me wonder how orderly they are.Reminds me of that lesson we had about queueing using phrases like ni yinggai paidui ..or ni mei zhang yanjing? Is there a lot of pushing in ,outta control stuff? are there officials keeping things in order?

May 17, 2010 at 6:05 AMJenny,
Is there an online tally?
Also,I'm wondering whether those of you have noticed the influx of visitors to the city. Is public transport more crowded? Restaurants? streets? ..in general?

May 16, 2010 at 1:37 AMI would have thought it would just simply be 假乳房 but I don't specifically know what is usually used. Even if that's not the usual term I'd be surprised if it wasn't understood. I guess getting the wrong term on such a topic can be a source of laughter though, hehe, particularly as I'm under the impression that such things are not so openly discussed as in the west.

May 16, 2010 at 1:26 AMHey,just caught the rest of the podcast. Thanks for the shout out...hehe,man the price for credit in my case this time was low...I think I only did one or maybe two. But yeah, what a champ Calkins is. Having done one post to his formula I quickly realised just how much time and effort was involved and he did heaps,as well as setting out the steps to post them. Bravo Calkins. Let's hope we see more of him if/when time permits. :) Apart from the founder Calkins, sebire was by far and away the next most regular contributor so thanks to her too.
ps I'd just like to add my thanks to the other contributors to the vocab pic of the day group, namely:
zhenlijiang, gesang,casielin, and kimiik
