July 14, 2010 at 10:18 PMthanks bodawei. Yes, maybe the magic is in the player...sometimes. I know when I was trying to watch world cup on the cctv I ran into 3 problems. On some sites it was saying it was not allowed in my region [so I'm not sure if this is a firewall issue or just some sort of licensing issue]. On other sites it was trying to suggest I download their player...this caused some trepidation [esp as installation instructions were all in Chinese...thus my suggestion in lesson topic suggestions] but I did give it a shot on one site without much success. And on other sites I didn't meet this barrier and it did download ,but as I say the streaming was impossibly slow and would only play a few seconds at a time before pausing for about 30secs. But I would be interested in the players and anyone's advice on downloading them. To give a more common example though, when I tried to listen to the song that is the background to this lesson, I got it from tudou and it took several minutes [I haven't measured it but maybe about 10 minutes] for it to download [for only a 3 minute [or thereabouts] song. In contrast a similar length video I would download from youtube would only take a matter of seconds and would start playing straight away Have any Aussies had success with downloading video content from China while in Australia?

July 14, 2010 at 12:49 PMthanks alexyzye. I didn't know that. I'll need to look into it. Apart from being a beautiful song and such an apt choice here, the other advantage was the words are slow and well enunciated so it's an easy song to follow from what I've heard so far.

呵呵,我同意。。很好的看法,可是虽然璐璐一定是一个很好的女人而聪明【而平常是一个“好马”,呵呵】,作为一个单身母亲是非常困难的,冯帅是很成功的,所以可能她做一个判断失误

July 14, 2010 at 12:27 PMthanks bodawei. Jenny said at the end of this podcast:
因为中国的很多电视剧都是这样结束的
...I guess I'm interested in the sort of soap similar to the themes and style here. Definitely not war [I've seen plenty of good films with that theme and it would be hard to beat something like chibi ]. Not police drama, not costume drama. Yeah, more after the romance genre, at least at the moment, and preferably a tv soap instead of a movie for a change. Anyone know of any good internet links? That perhaps seems to be the easiest source to access from here though I seem to find despite broadband downloading any video content from China extremely slow. Still I'd be interested in giving it a shot if anyone knows a good reference point. Anyhow I guess the starting point are suggestions for the most popular in that genre.

July 14, 2010 at 3:09 AMthe funny thing is I have no time for soap operas at all in English, but this is great. It's made me want to seek out the best of Chinese soap opera's [but you're probably right..they're probably not a patch on this].Anyway, still wouldn't mind checking them out so anyone got any suggestions?

July 14, 2010 at 10:43 PM哇,having said I'll I've just said, I've just had my very first success with downloading video content from China by looking up your suggestion. I found it on sohu here:
http://tv.sohu.com/20090116/n261794141.shtml
..started playing straight away. Looks just what I'm after at first glance. 感谢你 Lydia。 Now I'd like to work out how to watch it from the first episode of the first series. Any tips appreciated.
I'd still appreciate anyone's tips on how to download from tudou and youku and the like, esp for listening to Chinese music.
