October 15, 2010 at 8:30 AM没关系 Mei guanxi 【no worries]. Yeah, I love to play tennis, though it's not so regular these days as I would like. I used to follow tennis closely but I'm afraid to say I don't follow it anymore. I'm very interested in what you're saying about Bai Yan though..I'll have to look for some footage. When you say he's your student, are you his tennis coach, or are you teaching him something else?

October 14, 2010 at 9:00 PMthanks trevorb, that would be interesting. I'd love to find that thread also that discusses the rules for stroke order. Mind you, mostly I'm finding as you practice it becomes pretty intuitive.

October 14, 2010 at 7:47 PMI've gotta lotta 尊重[zūnzhòng ..respect] for someone man enough to say they're wrong about something [and besides, everyones entitled to their opinion, and yours was expressed lightheartedly and friendly anyway], and also love playing wangqiu so I reckon we'd be great mates. October 14, 2010 at 2:50 AMok, I have an example of what I've been talking about. Take the character 经 for example. If you look at the phonetic on the right hand side of the character, the bit above 工, the second stroke of that part is a small diagonal stroke going from the centre of that part to the bottom right of that part. However it is thicker where it ends on the bottom right. I don't think this is an error on skritters part. I think it is actually a good representation calligraphy wise of how the character is meant to be written. I'm pretty sure I learnt a long time ago that it all has to do with the original brush techniques in writing the characters. I think it's all to do with how the brush is applied to the scroll, in this example ,instead of trailing off in pressure as you lift the brush off the scroll, it's about a light pressure at the start as you make a more deliberate ending/ stop to the stroke with more pressure. But without knowing the character beforehand, or having a good grasp of the stroke rules, how is one to tell reliably the stroke direction? I guess I need to have a reference to a guideline.

October 14, 2010 at 2:40 AMI checked out ipad the other day. It's pretty much the same as itouch as far as I can see except with a much bigger screen, and the ability to get 3G on some versions. It would be ideal for skritter I agree. I hope it gets some more laptop like functionality like MS office, etc.

October 13, 2010 at 7:08 AMhehe, thanks mate, but I make plenty of mistakes. I've spent very little time on learning to write. I must use this skritter more though. It's a shame it wasn't there at the very start when I joined, as I'm pretty sure I would have used it to learn the writing at the same time. But by the time it was introduced I was well ahead in other areas, so I wasn't on the same page both literally and so to speak. Stroke order and direction is for the most part predicable, but there are some strokes that I find not so easy to predict. There was a good thread on this somewhere. I just wish I could find it as that would be quite useful to spend a bit of time on at the start.
Thanks for the heads up about the apps and flash...I didn't know that.

October 12, 2010 at 2:21 PMoh, ok, it's just a matter of entering it. No trick. I didn't think we used to be able to do that. You've been around a while mate. Do you know when this ability was introduced? I think I'll change back now. I'm about to resubscribe and I don't want to cause any confusion with my account.
