"Mine is an iPod Touch 4 - it doesn't have the Hold button you refer to"

..oh sorry mate. I had a fair bit on today and was reading and posting in a hurry. I'll see what I can find out.

"I can't download the latest version - that is the original problem I referred to"

...but are you trying to do this from within itunes? If this is not working by updating from within itunes then I wouldn't do it that way. Instead I'd go elsewhere to download as if you never had itunes in the first place and then try and install from that file. I'm no expert, I'm just telling you what I'd try. It just might work. But hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come and help you out.

mate, yeah, this takes me back to my original reply about resetting. In my experience often the reason itunes does not recognise your ipod nano is because you've accidentally left the hold button on. In that case it is an ipod problem and not itunes fault that it hasn't recognised it. Cinnamonferns instructions are correct. But first you have to turn off the hold button. On my nano it is on top of the nano..on the thin edge above the screen [top surface, not the surface you look at]...its a tiny switch you slide across...theres some thing orange under it when it's on]. Then follow cinnamonferns instructions.

If you can't delete itunes but also can't use it, it might be worth just downloading the latest version and trying to install it and hope it rides over the top of the one you've got. Good luck.

yeah, this is exactly what I thought at first glance of his original post...that the ipod was freezing like that and was going to suggest resetting it in just the way you describe, but then I thought he meant itunes itself. Now reading about losing everything on the ipod I'm back to square one thinking it could be this again. If itunes is crashing I don't see why he'll lose anything on his ipod. Also, even when the ipod does freeze like that, you don't usually lose anything when you reset it, as I'm sure you've found too cinnamonfern.

Good luck bodawei. Please don't 为了 too long if you do lose data. Sorry mate, I'm not 100% clear on what's happening.

Thanks RJ for once again making me aware that one of our expressions isn't universal in the English speaking world, though I guess if I stopped and thought about it I would have suspected it.

having not listened to the dialogue I haven't had too many clues to go on, but I'm still quietly confident I've cracked the first case. Agree the next one is a bit more challenging though.

oh, hang on, I didn't read carefully enough. I thought you meant itunes had caused your ipod to kark it but reading again I realise you mean itunes itself karked it. If all else fails I'd just uninstall itunes and reinstall. If you're having trouble, just spell out what the problem is and lets see if one of us can spot the prob/suggest a solution.
