。。aw, I dunno, human pinball could be fun if you're up for it. Maybe you could even have special gear for it so you have a truer bounce off things, and special rules like having to keep your hands in your pockets and feet together so, like the pinball, you don't influence your movement. No language required, just ping, bing, onamatopoeic pinball sounds. More fun with friends. There could be a scoring system. 谁是弹珠台魔法师？ 【who's the pinball wizard?]

I just had another listen and the weird thing is I can kinda hear both now. I can clearly hear the 长 but can also here the 炒。 But yeah, I think laughing affects things a little [ I think chang almost starts out as a chao but then the ng ending is subtle...even though I do know that the vowel sounds here are meant to be different] and perhaps I was just looking for a pun. Even 炒柠 was possible:

July 21, 2011 at 12:28 PMThanks John. Yeah, I totally got why Jenny was laughing. It was a good point, and amusing at the same time...a great device. I just wasn't sure where the 长宁区 was coming from and whether it was a pun, but I guess Jenny was just playing along and I didn't realise that's where the CPod office is. Thanks for explaining. It's one thing to not catch everything in a second language, but the one time you really don't [or at least I don't ] want to miss out on is a joke. I guess there are probably times when the native and the learner are both laughing at the same joke and the learner is totally off on the wrong [but still funny] tangent. Heck, I guess this probably happens to us rarely in our own languages, hehe.
