"great "who-dunnit" for baba"

...yeah, reminds me of Detective Li and the bath house murder, 'ceptin in this case you'd have to quickly eat said roo tail murder weapon bones n all and then Li would have to step in with an xray demonstrating all the roo tail vertebrae, or I guess he's good enough to just spot the extra bounce in the suspects step and nail him that way.

"a rat with a bag for a rat"

..hehe, yeah exactly. [thanks for pointing out algebra is also daishu RJ].

"someone used a frozen kangaroo tail as a murder weapon. Just picked it out of the freezer and .. Wham! "

..haha, great story. And I love your "wham" ...great end to the tale.

"I suggest we call a truce on this one and agree to use the word mathematics to spare both our ears"

...well you can count me out of any truce. I don't see the need for it.

"Someone once suggested that I should go for a job at the Tourism Liaison Office in the city where I lived, but this is certainly a barb of a different colour"

..while I think you mentioned at the time that someone had preceded me, I think I was the one on the boards to first suggest it, so nice pun on "barb"...I presume it was intentional? hehe

[ps my original comment wasn't meant as a barb...I was quite sincere]

"counted those manually"

.hehe, well this is ChinesePod mate, so naturally I used an abacus. And besides, I was inspired by the recent maths [S} lesson and the fervour and enthusiasm on that thread was nothing short of infectious, though my paltry simple addition exercise pales against your calculus there......

"Respect those who respect pistachios, as my old mother used to say to me."

haha, love it. I respect 'em as I eat 'em.

oh yeah, on 那, it is used like that all the time. Listening [and transcribing] the upper level lessons, you'll hear the CPod teachers say it several times per podcast used in the same way we use "so".

mdbg's 3rd definition of it is "then [in that case]"...pretty much akin to "so":
