November 29, 2011 at 10:16 PM"I suggest we call a truce on this one and agree to use the word mathematics to spare both our ears"
...well you can count me out of any truce. I don't see the need for it.

..while I think you mentioned at the time that someone had preceded me, I think I was the one on the boards to first suggest it, so nice pun on "barb"...I presume it was intentional? hehe
[ps my original comment wasn't meant as a barb...I was quite sincere]

.hehe, well this is ChinesePod mate, so naturally I used an abacus. And besides, I was inspired by the recent maths [S} lesson and the fervour and enthusiasm on that thread was nothing short of infectious, though my paltry simple addition exercise pales against your calculus there......

November 27, 2011 at 4:54 AMoh yeah, on 那, it is used like that all the time. Listening [and transcribing] the upper level lessons, you'll hear the CPod teachers say it several times per podcast used in the same way we use "so".
mdbg's 3rd definition of it is "then [in that case]"...pretty much akin to "so":

November 29, 2011 at 10:24 PM"great "who-dunnit" for baba"
...yeah, reminds me of Detective Li and the bath house murder, 'ceptin in this case you'd have to quickly eat said roo tail murder weapon bones n all and then Li would have to step in with an xray demonstrating all the roo tail vertebrae, or I guess he's good enough to just spot the extra bounce in the suspects step and nail him that way.
