"except maybe the fat balding rich ones, seem congenitally programmed to respond"

我不太清楚你上面的意思

Weiwei has already indicated she finds Frank attractive, 对吧?

sure, but it doesn't necessarily follow that it's reciprocated. As I postulated above, he sounded more interested in the more demure Lulu.

"he's not just pretending to know her"

jiushi. I'm glad you've backed me on this...I seem to be the only one. Once again, I thought this was deliberate and obvious comedy....these vain chicks were assuming they were being leered at, and it turns out as far as I can see he was quite innocent and probably just trying to remember her name. I thought he was genuine and not the creepy one, so I thought it was a typical CPod 180 degree twist in the end. Even the title led us to believe he was the creep, and he turned out ok.

"so she must know him too, whatever she says"

don't agree with that...I think he did go to her school and he was genuine, but she was too busy looking in the mirror back then as she is now, and he was a shy nerd that nobody noticed even students in lower years.

Well I had to look up this "Bar Rouge" you referred to as I hadn't heard of it before [which I take it would sound really ignorant if I lived in Shanghai, and may even be just plain ignorant outside of Shanghai]...looks like they claim to be the most famous club in Shanghai:

Bar Rouge

...so what's the story with this joint?

oh, yeah, and I'll take that bet for all you've got [and I was thinking this before I saw John's post and esp'd you my uptake of the bet, scout's honour, and I received your esp read receipt, so cough up matey oh]

"it didn't just say that he was pretending to be wealthy but that he pretended to be second-generation wealthy."

...good question. I initially took this to just be like in the west ...the snobbery old money can have towards the unrefined nouveau riche, but you went on to bring up a very good practical point, namely:

"a man who has time to spend with them as well as money to raise a child with"

make that a double hang on....I realise now you were referring back to Grambers comment on the expansion sentence. hehe, these threads get long, and it's a new day so I'd forgotten the start, hehe.

hang on, I've just read that Mr Right article RJ linked to, but I can't find any mention of the stuff you're talking about such as:

"His two deceptions were combined as bait to seduce girls, not to trick them into marriage. Gross"

...was it on a link from that main story, or am I off on the wrong track altogether?

"My perspective, validating Baba's points:

The guy was pretending not only to be rich, but to be seeking marriage. The truth was not only that he wasn't rich, but also that he wasn't seeking a serious relationship (if he really were seeking marriage, he would only have needed to deceive one girl, yes?). "

ok, well here's where I fess up that I have not yet read RJ's linked to article on "Mr Right", so I'll have to go read that to get fully in the picture. I was merely responding to Grambers quote. But I don't think it's likely to change anything I wrote...it'll just more put me in the picture for what you wrote. I meant to read his linked to article at the time but as I went straight to his second linked article I subsequently forgot to come back to the first.

Glad to see RJ cleared up what I meant by your reply to "familypast" , en, hen qiguai ah

“薇薇 takes 弗兰克 to the cleaners”

。。。while RJ conceded my take on it was possible re Lulu, I'm getting the feeling that I'm out on a limb here and that everyone has Weiwei down as Frank's love interest. Why is this so? I mean for me she has personality issues. Does this make her more of a challenge? Treat em mean keep em keen? [an equivalent saying in Chinese?]. And because she is reportedly better looking? Are we in for a Chinese equivalent of the Taming of the Shrew?
