August 17, 2008 at 1:57 AMHi Amber, Connie and John : )
I know it's Sunday morning in Shanghai, so I don't really expect a quick reply, but I have a question. The term "ming" is new to me. Can I use the following: yi1xie1ren2 or yi1dui4ren2?

I highly recommend this film. It's a wonderful retelling of the how the endangered great panda was brought to the world stage.

Watching it in HD is like being there with the pandas. Also has breathtaking cinematography.

July 26, 2008 at 6:56 PMHaving grown up in the states, I really hadn't been aware of this customary postpartum cultural practice till I had my first child. My mom was not so happy with me getting up and and doing normal things pretty much right away. There is no such a practice of confinement here in the states that I know of. My mom was around to help, but by no means was I confined to the home. I wouldn't and couldn't do it. There were things to do, people to see, baby to tend to, so much of which I wanted to do myself. Of course it would have been luxurious to not have to do anything for a month. My kids were just fine even if they were out and about with me that first month of life.

June 18, 2008 at 4:11 AM@boran, if I may...it isn't so much the placement of the 我 as much the grammatical structure...
- pulosm is right, there is an implied subject in ”气死我了”。。。something or someone (implied subject) is "pissing me off”(气死我)
- 我饿死了 has a person (我) feeling the starvation (饿死了)
- “why are u freaking out" would be-你为什么急
Hope that helps a little...

June 15, 2008 at 2:10 AMDave, what you posted is just awful, awful. Constructive criticism is one thing. Insensitive derogatory rants are beneath you, Dave. At least I would like to think so.

June 13, 2008 at 1:01 AM@coyote- I believe this is incorrect
"zuo3 guai3 is xiao3 guai3, turn left
you4 guai3 is da4 guai3, turn right"
zuo3 is left, and therefore da4 (big) turn.
you4 is right, and therefore xiao3 (small) turn.
Amber talks about it in one of her DA's, but I can't, for the life of me, remember which one it is. She says she remembers left=big because it's the longer turn compared to a small=right turn. Hope this answers your question : )
