Hi Wenjong. Actually, "teng" -- which literally means, "to hurt/to ache" as in "tou2teng2" -- does actually have a second, very correct meaning which is, "to love or be fond of (-something/-somebody)". Eg. you can "teng2" your children. "Ai" is used for romantic love (Eg. "Wo ai ni!", or for indicating that you like something (Eg. "Ai4kan4shu", "love reading"). Good luck in your Chinese studies! You're very sharp and that will help you to get very good in the language!

Hello Kitty (hee hee, what a treat to be able to use this corny expression), thank you for your kind understanding. The irony is that my iTunes/my Mac doesn't have any problems sorting Chinese script. It seems like such a little, trivial point, but moving abruptly from a system where the file name is -- say -- governed by level (eg., "Advanced", "Upper Intermediate" etc), to one where half of the MP3s are abruptly named by type (eg., "Dialogue"), does give even the simplest sorting system some serious hiccups. Like you, I also superimpose the Chinese level names. But now that there are no lesson numbers or track numbers, sorting often becomes a pain. I can't simply configure the sorting to sort by the Chinese characters, because I also have Thai script material in my iTunes library, which takes priority. Not only that, I am only just beginning to learn Wubu Zixing, so without numbers of any kind, I wonder how I am going to refer to Advanced lessons. Thank you Kitty for the kind tone of your response! All the best -- Auntie

Okay, just a few lines from Auntie to apologize for her prickly outbursts earlier. To be fair, the quality of the lessons has never taken any kind of dip, despite the upheavals of the transition from V2 to V3. And this was another brilliant lesson; thanks Jenny and John. Thanks everybody for being patient with an old Auntie whose natural working style is messy, freewheeling, and unstructured, and who therefore -- ironically -- can only afford to work that way when the RSS feed system is as neutral and simple as possible. I don't archive things with a view to having everything neat and nice and complete. On the contrary, I am a lazy worker who likes things simple so that I can let things pile up in my iTunes for a week and then do a bit of batch-file re-naming when (if) I am in the mood. I drag files into a "manana" playlist for... whenever. But if the file naming system keeps changing, this gets complicated. Again, thanks!

Dave, thanks. I mean it. But I can't use CPOD on a PC because I use a Mac. Anyway, my problem doesn't seem to be a computer problem, it's a question of CPOD's file-naming systems for MP3s and PDFs that come in via the RSS feed. Every time they change their minds, I have to tweak the way I sort things in iTunes to try and stop the incoming stuff from shuffling everything again. But again, thanks.

Okay, I'm frosty again. But still SO tired of the endless tweaking and bugs that are part of V3. And with the CPOD team dreaming and blogging about spreading Praxis around the globe, instead of putting energy into getting simple things right, I don't think I should be blamed for feeling intensely irritated.

Sometimes I think that the systems and the technical stuff behind CPOD must have been assigned to a five-year-old.

Oh great, now I see that the MP3s (via the RSS feed) for today's lesson lack track numbers... Guess that's today's mess-up. And I've just complained via e-mail and via lesson comment about the irritating inconsistency in naming PDFs, which screws up any kind of archiving system. This kind of sloppiness is truly annoying. Very unprofessional. Mandarin on my terms -- my foot.

But thanks anyway, Trevalyan.

P/s: The problem is with the rss feed PDF. Msg is: "File Error - Couldn't open the file". Bummer. I can download the PDF from this page, I guess, but then the file naming is the rubbish Efdkfjdkjf format that is completely opaque about the lesson title. I can't believe that your system is so sloppy. Thanks. I wish you had done your tweaking BEFORE launching all these big and grand changes.

I'm afraid I can't open the PDF (simplified). Anybody else having the same problem? Tks!
