July 2, 2007 at 12:56 PMOkay, will do. And thanks for the e-mail about the fixes to come. I'm grateful, really I am.

July 2, 2007 at 7:35 AMAnd, Xiaohu, if I caused you offence, I hope you will find room in your heart to forgive me. I mean that.

July 2, 2007 at 6:53 AMDear Xiaohu, posters like you, who are so sincere and (genuinely) fluent in Mandarin, are sincerely respected by idiots like me. That's the truth. It's not a big deal -- what is respect from somebody like me? --, but I like to think that I share your sentiments. I think I have just been mildly slapped in t the face by "Man2toe" in Mandarin, but I don't know how to respond (and shall not, al-hamdullilah!) because I don't completely understand his riposte in Mandarin. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and stay silent. Xiaohu, I go out of my way in Singapore to show appreciation to any non-Chinese person who makes a genuine and sincere attempt to improve his Mandarin. That's the truth. I won't work against you.

July 2, 2007 at 6:09 AMWhether John or Clarence is right regarding the availability of "dialogue-only" MP3s is such a small issue, the only thing which made it "big" and irritating for me was the snotty tone of John's reply (in the general sense of, "you know, not everything is free in life, duh!"), when there was actually genuine, reasonable, confusion over whether (i) Clarence was simply being stroppy for the fun of it, or (ii) the CPOD team was being confusing on this topic. Too many lines of comment (and goodwill) were wasted on this one topic, and I'm still not convinced that it would be fair to pin it all on the user who raised what seems to be a reasonable query, whilst sliding past any responsibility CPOD might have for not being clear enough in the first place on a fundamental feature.

July 2, 2007 at 5:52 AMEg. why is it that I am able to receive "dialogue-only" MP3s via my personal feed, even though I am only a "Basic" subscriber, when John Pasden himself insists (on this very thread) that it is a service only for "Premium" subscribers, and when (the very stroppy) Clarence has pointed to me in a private email that this option was "greyed-out" for him in his personal RSS feed menu? I think that the answer is -- possibly -- that the CPOD website design is not as intuitive as it should be. If anybody wishes to flame or blast me for being "deprecating" on this count, so be it. My respect for the integrity of CPOD and her "community" is as low as it ever has been.

July 2, 2007 at 5:42 AMDear Ken, with respect (and I mean it), if you don't want general complaints to clog up the lesson comments, would you please suggest where they could be posted? I know you probably HATE my endless harping on "stupid details", but when -- for example -- will I receive any sort of response to my possibly ridiculous, undoubtedly foolish, and now-regretted (because it's fruitless) countless requests for somebody to look at the dead "Lesson Archives" link in the bottom row of tabs?

July 2, 2007 at 3:41 AMAmber, thank you for your reply. I was curious too! I just hope you know that even if I do criticize CPOD sometimes, none of this criticism has EVER been been levelled at the academic staff (including hosts/ admins), who are among the best on this planet. Thank you, sincerely, for putting up with the grumpy tone of some of our posts, just being so professional.

July 1, 2007 at 1:18 PMDear CPOD & fellow BB posters, Okay. I get the message. Asking about bugs is "whining". I no longer care. Give yourselves a pat on the back for being so wonderful!

July 2, 2007 at 4:08 PMOh. Thanks, phew. So as in "zan2men2" (sort of), right? Sorry, I know you're not fond of hanyu pinyin!
