Dear Changye-san, without any sarcasm, only kind wishes, in my heart, I just want to say that you inspire me because you are braver than me, and you have a kind heart that does not insist that you are always right, even though you usually are. Thank you for that! I know that I was a public nuisance for asking the general question, "do you think that CPOD users do seem to have a real problem with written Chinese, what can we learn from that". No, I was purporting to "help" you (there is a difference), but I can see that it wasn't appropriate. I'm stuck with hanyu pinyin for now, until I get a grip on the old Wubi. Have not intention of starting on the bopomofo. Meanwhile, without any sarcasm, I again wish you all the best for your Chinese studies! I won't be in your hair any more.

Dear Man2Two, it's not a wo3ying2ni3shu1 situation, it looks like my hanyu pinyin has let me down again, try the "dian3" with a third tone. I was writing the tone as it would actually be spoken (tone pairs?). I prefer to WRITE Chinese (which is why I am learning Wubi Zixing), surely you won't take offence at my hanyu pinyin. I detect a tone of sarcasm in your response in Chinese characters, that is sad but at least I know you better now. Good luck with your Chinese studies.

And as a synonym of "kan4fa3", you can consider "tai4du4", as in "zhen1de5bu4liao2jie3ni3de5tai4du4". But this is offered "without responsibility" (I am a lawyer), coz you are actually more advanced than I am.

Hello Man2Toe, just so that the OTT frolics don't end up in nothing, can I suggest that you try out "yi1dian2ye3bu4" instead of "wan2quan2bu4", and see how that works? But I understood you fine. Hope that was okay!

Sorry, zhe4ZHong3... it's really hard to type in hanyu pinyin! Guess that gives me an incentive to slog on with Wubi Zixing, which is difficult but more intuitive, somehow. Happy Chinese learning, everybody.

And I do agree with the point you made about not having to worry so much about "bad input" in the context of a decent amount of "other" input which is basically "correct". Did I understand you right? However, I do still think that beginners may stand to gain a lot more from writing exchanges with people who are already proficient in written Chinese. Living in Singapore, in SE Asia, I can tell you that human brains (and souls) are pretty well wired for developing pidgin languages, and I can already detect a few expressions which have become pretty popular in the "Advanced" BBs, but which are not... Chinese. I thank Henning for his insight into the practical difficulties of expecting the Board Admins to correct random posts, on top of everything that they are already doing. Take care, all.
