In Mandarin Schools/Universities in Taiwan, you will mainly encounter Traditional characters. There are a couple schools that have their textbooks available in both types, but I would say the vast majority are Traditional.

Interesting question, because with intimate relatives or very close friends, the 你好 (nǐhǎo) is actually not really used. They will just call out:
爸爸 bàba or 爸 bà

Yes, 为了 (wèile) means for the sake of; in order to:
For your sentence, it's good, but is a little smoother to say:
我来中国不是为了喝美国啤酒。
Wǒ lái Zhōngguó bù shì wèile hē Měiguó píjiǔ.

There are a few different usages of 本 (běn). Here are a few:
As a noun: 本子 (běnzi) notebook
As a measure word： 一本书 (yī běn shū)
To indicate 'one's own', as in:
本人 (běnrén) I, myself
本公司 (běn gōngsī) this company; my company

Sorry I was away for xmas break and hadn't seen the internet for a couple days! Yeah it's true, it looks like I have decided to leave China... trust me, i wish that didn't mean leaving all of you at ChinesePod :( however, if I'm not in China I can't really work there! I think the time has come for me to start another chapter, back in the US of A or Canada. I hope you all understand and the reason I didn't come on here and announce it was because I have some shows still coming out and was going to do a special goodbye show. So please forgive me for not realizing it would come out before then.
I hope we can all still keep in touch, and i'm sure the other good pals at ChinesePod will come out with a new show that everyone will love.
Anyway there are still a couple more DAs coming out so its not goodbye. Even then, its not goodbye, I hope :)
