电子显微镜  is electron microscope.

microscope is sometimes shortened to xianjing.

In the US we used to do similar. Kids were commonly nick named chubby, Big Jim or big whoever, "Tiny" etc, and of course there were names for the thin as well such as slim, skinny etc. Then there is shorty which may be more painful than chubby. I had a friend named "lope". His mother nick named him this because his head was shaped like a cantaloupe. Today we are all very sensitve but these names only carry painful messages if society makes being fat something to be ashamed of. Back in the fifties this probably wasnt the case and these names were more common. Regardless, kids will hear it from some of the other kids. We need to teach good habits early.

In China my co-workers all play badminton every wed night for physical fitness. They play indoors in a gym with no air conditioning. They believe you shoud sweat, because it is healthy. At least that was the explanation. There are no showers either. A little different than here where badminton is only played at picnics outdoors and not taken very seriously. At least that has been my experience. I had to teach them what a "birdie" was but they are very good at the game. A good idea actually for staying in shape. Thanks for the lesson. I can use the vocab.

So, Im guessing Cantoneasy is off the table now?  Odd you should announce this upcoming new feature, knowing Clay was leaving. My hope is that you will continue the cantonese.
