I'm still unclear as to the difference between 辞退 and 裁员. I notice that the example used for 辞退 was letting go older workers; is 辞退 related to 退休?

Hi, could you give some appropriate examples of using 而 between two contrasting adjectives? All the examples were using similar adjectives.

帝国主义 above should be "imperialism," not "in purism."

Thank you, Connie. I listened again. It really sounds like "xiāng" to me, but 像 definitely makes more sense. I'm guessing it's being used in the sense of "好像入党的名额……"?

The dictionary defined 佬 as a derogatory term for a man or guy. Is 鬼佬 used to refer to only males, or also females?
