How come those two characters mean "break up" when put together? :) " Actually, 分 fen1, has several uses and meanings. One of the meanings is to 'divide' or 'separate'. Hence, a 'separating of the hands'....to break up, sigh。。。都黑黑的。

May 3, 2007 at 4:05 PMDINING VERBS - Today I was eating dinner with a friend and I said "多一碗米饭“，she said to me I need to add "加” as in “加多一碗米饭.” So I said, I guess that's a verb, need a verb huh. She said, "In English you say 'give' right." Very defensively I said "Well, you can also say 'another bowl of rice please'" Next time I'm just gonna use "来多一碗米饭“ and shout really loud! So I understood Ken's comment about letting other's order. It's a very easy thing to do.

May 3, 2007 at 5:33 AMBENI'S - Yesterday, I was talking to someone and they suggested that America had better 'fu li' than China. For example in the U.S. there usually are public tennis courts that are free to use, whereas in China the rates can go from $1-8 per hour. 福利 Afterwards I thought I would use the new V3 search function for some other Cpod content to help me 'burn' the word into my head. The search results returned three podcasts. But as far as I can tell, only the first podcast actually uses 福利, in the name of the adoption agency. The others podcasts seem to only use 福. It took a lot of reading of the various text for me to figure this out. Is there any way to narrow the search to include only the complete word? May 2, 2007 at 3:47 AMIRAQ - How about a podcast on Iraq, the Iraq war. It's a topic that often comes up, and people ask my views about it all the time. I also notice the Chinese have strong views on it. If I could ask, don't try to pack the podcast with too much vocabulary, just some time spent on how to 'pronounce' Iraq, and some common taxi-cab dialogue on the topic, would be peachy! Thanks!

April 29, 2007 at 4:11 PMNA GE - Hey Juriann, you're right, the recording says 哪个城市, (aka unidentified 'feature') rather than 哪些城市. I don't think 座 applies to cities (at least not in that sentence). The '些' would mean 'that' or 'which' cities, and '个' the more colloqial variation. Which obviously caught Connie :) Maybe in a sentence that 'counts' cities you'd include a measure, like 中国内有5,986座城市. (?) I'm not a teacher though, nor native, so let's see what others say.
