May 24, 2007 at 3:35 AMTALKING FREELY - I find it really fascinating that many of the recent commenters in this thread feel a need to impose their own language needs on others. I think most will agree that as long as we stay relatively polite and friendly, we should welcome anyone to post freely at whatever Chinese level they can or in whatever format. Nicolas seems to be very ardent at times about asking others to post in triplicate, (or trad/simp), etc. while I understand the need at times, each person should also take some responsibility to use some of the various translations/conversion tools available out there, or to even IGNORE some comments. I think this topic is actually very important for learners of a language, are we free to talk, are others, in whatever capacity we are able?? Restricting others only restricts yourself. IMO I'm an advocate of freedom to choose whether to post in English (German, Dutch, Swahili, Cantonese, Spanish...等等), and with/without pinyin, 汉字 or not, or whatever other darn variation one wants to!!!! To quote an old Texan saying "Don't tread on me!" or is that a 新建 expression? Maybe this is why some people get divorced. 在中国有多人说, 别管别人的事,照顾自己就可以了. 我觉得这种自由在中国有时比国外的多. 大家同意吗? 结婚之后有私利吗? :)

May 20, 2007 at 3:12 AMWhere'd I hear that before? - 几天前有一个朋友跟我聊聊这个题目，如果我没有在Cpod已经听过这个题目的话，肯定我不能猜她说什么。多谢啊！ hunxue, 可能在夏花一（hawaii...?), 和罗三级（los angeles) 人家都比较习惯了所以那边的人的谈话水平比较高，不过如果我们离开那两个大市场，多人是这洋简单聊对不对？在中国也有很多人比较了解这种事情不过也有人多很简单说。 坦白说，Jenny 已经说了一句话“我觉得我是世界人” （大概这洋子说），我真同意，国家/nationality 真是古代的想法，这新代我们那么小的世界，就是一个家！

IMO each new character is still a brand new character, so I'm not really convinced that the pinyin shouldn't be there for the podcast lesson image at the inter level. Then again, I stared at the characters a while and realized the phonetic elements of the radicals probably applied, 'dao' and 'mei', two hanzi I do know, and 'dao mei' being the word for 'unlucky' which I also happen to know. （If only from the numerous times people have uttered it to me!) From the context, it's probably a good betting guess.... Now looking more closely at the hanzi, I could make up a story since the other radicals aren't too obscure, the 'dao' is a person reaching somewhere, and the 'mei' has rain coming down everyday, in other words an 'unlucky' soul encountering rain everyday. 讨厌你们的教练方法 ;p :)
