HMPHH - Is there any big difference between the two below Chinese versions of saying someone is impolite or uncouth? Is 'su4zhi' kinda like the English version of a uppity-word (uncouth) to put down others? 1. 他不礼貌 (He is impolite, li3 mao4) 2. 没素质的人 ( He has no class, su4 zhi) 3. (Someone I don't want to meet) How are my translations? On number 3, I'm not sure if my friend was saying this to avoid directly putting down others, or using some words that I would easily understand. Is it a common expression? BTW, I have been seeing some Olympic promos and I think they use the word "文明“, what are some ways to say that people are 'cool', 'nice', and 'well-mannered'...my guesses below. I guess with that said, maybe this is too big a cultural question, but if I say: Am I obviously being insulting? Or does it come across as okay to say? Or it just depends on the context of when I say it? I'm trying to get a feel for these words, I think in U.S. conversations I have hardly ever said, "I think he's impolite" "Or he has no manners." ...seems we just refer to much more um....colorful expressions. I do know once when I did use the term 'polite', it was after visiting Canada, and I said "Wow, those Canadians sure are polite, the clerk even thanked me for buying something! It freaked me out." ;p

ENVY - I'm not much of a fashion'ista per se, but it is kinda depressing to see about a bajillion different kinds of shoes and not be able to buy any. It's saved me money...but (and I'm sure for the ladies it's even worse/better), how about a future intermediate/upper-int lesson on expressing frustration with not being able to do something in China, that everyone else can!!

Bazza, 别问了, is used A LOT in casual conversations. All the same nuances as English.
