June 18, 2007 at 5:04 PM鸡腿 - It's late here: why does that dried up rose look to me like bbq chicken? 正在是夜晚,那件片真象鸡腿烧烤呀!

June 18, 2007 at 5:02 PMLe di shen - About, "Now, another usage of 了(le) is as part of a sentence pattern that expresses that an action that is about to or going to happen, as in this dialogue: pattern: (要……了、快要……了、就要……了) (yào...le, kuài yào....le, jiùyào.....le) 就要下雨了。 (Jiùyào xiàyǔ le.) 我下个月要去中国了。 (Wǒ xià ge yuè yào qù Zhōngguó le.)" I was treating it as a 'modal'/mood particle in these kind of sentences, but guess there was more to it than that. I used to kinda just add 'le' to everything, you know, like speaking spanish'o, by adding an 'o' to everything, comprendo, amigo. Let's go'o. ;p

:) Blurb summary: I just said I thought everyone's comments were interesting. I thought also that John's Chinese is fine, just that he still has an accent. But the more time I spend in China, the more discerning my ear is, I can tell if someone is from Beijing versus Taiwan. I encouraged Clarence to write some in hanzi, and was happy today to chat with everyone.

June 17, 2007 at 3:04 AMUSE ABILITY - I know there is a help link and somewhere in the past something gave an intro post about it, but I really have little clue as to what the icons mean. In useability models, the icons are meant to create associations for KNOWN commands, and the place, location, image then get generally associated with that command, making it visually faster to find and click. Icons generally do NOT work well in identifying new or changing materials. That said, the help section doesn't even describe what the icons mean for the few very diligent persons willing to look there. "Connect Left Side - Conversations ChinesePod is a community of learners, and the community conversations are a powerful catalyst for learning. The Connect section helps you keep track of all your conversations. The Your Conversations section tracks all conversations you have started or participated in. On the right hand side it displays how many comments have been made since yours, to let you know if the conversation is still active. The Watchlist Conversations section tracks all the conversations started or participated in by people on your watchlist. You can add someone to your watchlist by clicking on their avatar that appears next to their comments to visit their profile page, and then selecting 'add to watchlist'. " .... 请你们帮帮大家比较了解怎么用你们的网站。如果你就急速的放了新东西人多很容一迷路。而且老客肯定有点不满意还有觉得有点麻烦。这感觉是正常对不对。坦白说,我觉得中国人和年前人比较习惯了那样每天又新又改的事情等等。哪我变老了吧! 。。。

June 17, 2007 at 2:46 AMCanaadian's have accents, ya? DUE CONSIDERATION - Here's an example of saying something twice to make a more gentle plea, however, with the proper tone this particular sentence carries a lot of bite. 你好好地想想吧! ni hao hao de xiang xiang ba! Take your time and think about it carefully! To reinterpret, if it's coming from a gal, it really means "You're wrong and you better think of a way to make it up to me. Options include dinner that will include maxing out the credit card, flowers, or other grandiose material objects." IMO :D Oh honey bumpkins, 请你在等一等吧

June 16, 2007 at 3:48 PMGRAM‘ rrr - By the way, pls consider that my post has a lot of emotional baggage from good-hearted Chinese language teachers that would tell me it's an intransitive verb that comes after the predicate but before the possessive and that I should really watch my present-progressive sentences cause they're wrong and how come you have this sort of blank look on your face? I know the words and how to spell them...but that's about it.......... 老师,请再很简单简单说说我能明白吧。
